Shift of Momentum... Network Marketing Success with JT DeBolt | |
Think Like An EntrepreneurAh, the holidays! This past weekend here in the United States was highlighted by Thanksgiving. My brother, Dan, was in town for the holiday; as it was a real treat to take a little down time with our family. Dan, Mia and I spent some memorable hours around the fire discussing the finer points of football, food, business, and life in general. It always amazes me how taking a little time away from one’s passionate pursuits reinvigorates the entrepreneur. And one of the great aspects of network marketing is that the business runs on autopilot so we still generated income even while taking some much-needed down time.
It may seem cliché to speak about gratitude while celebrating a holiday dedicated to giving thanks for all of the cherished aspects of life. But I felt it necessary to share a couple of musings from this weekend, since most entrepreneurs would agree with me that an attitude of gratitude is fuel for the network marketing machine. In fact, an attitude of gratitude is a key and essential mindset for any entrepreneur, and specifically network marketing. And gratitude should not be expressed just during the holidays.
The opposite of the attitude of gratitude is the attitude of lack. If you focus on what you don’t have, or what you “need”, you will find yourself reacting negatively and attracting more of the setbacks that we all experience. The “here we go again” mentality tends to prevail unless you begin to view the place where you currently exist as a great place. And even though you desire a better life than you currently live, you should start by being grateful for where you are and what you have now.
First of all, why is gratitude so important? Yeah, I know…it seems pretty obvious. Be grateful for all you have, because it could be worse. Or, be grateful for all that you have because you never know when it could be taken away. I would like to suggest a couple of different takes on why gratitude is important. First, if you operate from an attitude of gratitude, you will already be mentally and emotionally predisposed to handle adversity and setbacks more gracefully. Getting the mindset of gratitude cemented in you should create a sense of being “bulletproof to setbacks”. Mia and I thought about how many setbacks we have faced over the past year; if it weren’t for gratitude, I doubt we would have enjoyed the successful recovery from adversity.
So, how does one get into an attitude of gratitude? First, think of the things in your life that make you happy. Often times, these are the types of things that a person might be grateful for. Anything from good health, good friends, family, lifestyle, a certain talent, or an experience can all spawn feelings of gratitude. A great drill to do daily is to get in a quiet place, and go through your list. Joe Vitale recommends starting the list with, “I am so happy and grateful for…” and then start your list. My friend Patrick Combs recommends doing this as you go to bed. It is a wonderful way to drift off to sleep! And if you wake up and take a few minutes to think of where you might have left off, it is an equally great way to start the day.
The cool thing is that, by implementing an attitude of gratitude, you will start to achieve the things in life you are working for. The stuff you desire, the people you want to be around, and the happiness you deserve starts to flow to you more abundantly. By thinking of how grateful you are for the things you currently have, opportunities to achieve what you desire start to regularly present themselves.
